Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors World War II Veteran John Gualtier. 75-years ago, John enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. His father served in World War I and John was a combat medic who earned a Bronze Star for his service. During the war, John treated wounded soldiers, including German soldiers and the only thing he ever carried into combat was a pair of bandage scissors. During his service he also treated prisoners in concentration camps, saying that was worse than war. Recently, John received his long overdue Purple Heart for the wounds suffered during the war that never got logged because he wouldn’t stop helping people long enough for the injuries to be documented. Thank you John for your service.
