Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Kansas World War II Veteran Julia Kabance. In 1942, Julia enlisted in the Army and performed clerical work for more than 2 years with the war happening overseas. She later spent 17 years volunteering at the VA in Topeka. Two days ago, Julia was surprised by the Combat Vets Association with a parade at her nursing home. There were dozens of motorcycles, friends and family, and they all sang her happy birthday. Quite a big deal for Julia, who on Monday, turned 110 years old making her the oldest known Native American World War II Veteran and the oldest member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Happy Birthday Julia and thank you for your service.
