Star Spangled Salute: Celebrating the Oldest World War II Veteran on His Birthday

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors World War II Army Veteran Lawrence Brooks.  Lawrence, who was stationed in the Pacific theater during World War II almost didn’t make it back home when the C-47 cargo plane he was assigned to almost went down while on a run delivering barbed wire.  Lawrence survived that ordeal and the war and in just a couple of weeks, he will celebrate his 111th birthday, making him the oldest known living World War II Veteran.  For the last 5 years he’s celebrated at the World War II memorial in his home town of New Orleans, but not this year because of Covid-19 ,he can’t.  So, the museum is asking for you and people around the world to send cards to Lawrence to help him celebrate.  Happy early birthday Lawrence and thank you for your service.

Those who wish to send cards to Brooks can mail them to the address below.
