Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Army Veteran Cornelia Smith. When Cornelia joined the Army, her family didn’t support the choice. Her mother wanted her to settle down and start a family but Cornelia wanted to make a difference for women and hopefully open doors for more women down the road. Cornelia became one of the first women to graduate from Military Police School. After her service while serving as a recruiter in Georgia she walked past a home that was on fire and her instincts kicked in and she ran into the burning structure and saved the family inside. While she did’t receive any medals for her courage she said the thank you from the family and the fire chief was enough. Thank you Cornelia for your service.
