Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Oregon Army National Guard Sgt. Erin Guthrie. While on an 8-month peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, Erin came across a dog. She said the stray dog kept coming toward her which made her a little nervous but she soon realized the dog just needed a friend. An that is what they became. Erin said the dog brought brightness to a pretty hard situation.
Today @PawsofWarUSA reunited a soldier with a dog she fell in love with overseas. The timid dog fell right into her arms. More coming up on @CBSNewYork! pic.twitter.com/RrsTh4RQte

In the days ahead, when she returned to the states, she looked a lot for the dog she called Meeka. Finally she reached out to the organization. Paws of War, and through their program “War Torn Pups”, they raised over $6,000 to reunited Meeka and Erin. Congratulations Erin and THANK YOU for your service.
