Trout are being stocked in waters across Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism’s Trout Program gives angler a unique opportunity that’s not typically available in the state. Trout are stocked in 32 bodies of water. In the Wichita area, you’ll find trout at the KDOT East Lake, Sedgwick County Park Vic’s Lake and Slough Creek, El Dorado State Park’s Walnut River area, and the Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson. Stocking has already started at these location, although Slough Creek is too dry to stock right now.

The trout season runs November 1 to April 15, and a trout permit is required to fish in most stocking locations during this time.

Catching a trout that measures at least 20-inches will qualify you for a Master Angler Award. The current state record is a 15.72-pound, 28-inch rainbow trout, caught at Kill Creek Park Lake in February of 2014.
