Sedgwick County resumes COVID-19 testing for people without symptoms

The Sedgwick County Health Department said Monday that coronavirus testing is starting again for people who do not have symptoms.

All residents can get a no-cost COVID-19 test by calling the United Way’s 211 number.   Sampling will be done by appointment only during regular hours at the county’s drive-through site at 620 North Edgemoor.  The site is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

County residents can also be tested at walk-up mobile testing events.  There are three scheduled this week:

  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, at YMCA Garvey Sport Center, 1410 S. Glendale St., Wichita
  • 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, at Tabernacle Bible Church, 1817 N. Volutsia St., Wichita
  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, at University United Methodist Church, 2220 N. Yale, Wichita

Priority for testing will be given to people with symptoms and those who are in the priority groups, such as teachers, health care workers, law enforcement, detention facility workers, first responders and people who work in residential living facilities.

The health department will take a nose swab or a saliva sample and send it to a lab for testing, and results are expected in four to six days.
