Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 101-year old World War II #Veteran Saturnino Mares. When Saturnino was younger, he said he begged his mother to join the Army. It was a military career that would see him receive a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and an Oak Leaf for serving on the 36th Infantry – 141st Battalion Company C from 1941-1945. Saturnino has outlived 2 of his 3 children and his high school sweetheart. Despite a difficult life and surviving the war, he says you just have to keep going.
