Sedgwick County working on next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations

Sedgwick County health officials are working on Phase II of the COVID-19 vaccination plan as outlined by the state of Kansas.   The county will move into Phase II when vaccines become available.

The county’s Local Health Officer, Dr. Garold Minns, is working with the Health Department and local medical providers to finalize a Phase II plan, and it should begin in the next few weeks.   Under this phase, the vaccine will be available to people 65 and older, then it will go to people with medically-verified high risk factors.   The vaccines will be available through a registration portal.

There is currently no sign-up or waiting list for Phase II vaccinations.  More information will be provided soon on how residents will sign up as a supply of vaccines becomes available.

Under Phase I, health care personnel were given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  The second doses should occur 28 days after the first dose, and most medical providers who are due for the second dose can begin receiving it the week of January 25th.

An estimated 18,000 vaccinations have been provided in the county to date by the Sedgwick County Health Department and local hospitals.   That number does not include the vaccines provided to local long-term care facilities.  Those vaccines have been handled through local pharmacies, such as Walgreens and CVS.
