A man convicted for his role in the kidnapping and murder of a 9-year-old Wichita girl is now out on parole.

A parole had been approved for 57-year-old Donald Wacker, who was convicted of kidnapping and aiding a felon.   Prosecutors said Wacker helped Doil Lane in the 1990 kidnapping of Nancy Shoemaker in Wichita.   Lane was convicted of taking Nancy to a rural location in Sumner County and killing her.   Lane is serving a life sentence in Texas for the murder of an 8-year-old girl.

Wacker was due to be paroled to go live with his brother in Pittsburg, Kansas, but his release was delayed as officials looked at other arrangements.   State corrections officials say Wacker was released from the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, and he will be living in the Kansas City area.

Wacker’s parole hearing was held last year, and it drew protests and petitions from a number of Wichita residents who did not want to see him released.
