The Harvey County Health Department is expecting 300 initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for use in Phase 2 of the state’s vaccination plan.

The Health Department will receive a shipment of the Moderna vaccine, and the doses will be directed toward law enforcement, other first responders and K-12 educators.

Phase 2 will cover people 65 and older, people in congregate settings and high-contact critical workers, such as law enforcement officers.   Health Department Assistant Director Toby Harkins said demand for the vaccine continues to outpace supply, and he said the department is looking to scale up operations as soon as more vaccine becomes available.

Those who have not been vaccinated in Phase 1 are still eligible to receive the shots.   That phase has involved health care workers along with residents and staff of long-term care facilities.
