Governor says over 2 million Kansans have been tested for COVID-19

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced that the state has officially gone over the 2 million mark in testing for COVID-19, and more than 1.1 million Kansans have been tested at least once.

The governor expressed thanks to health care providers for their partnership with the state in the testing effort.  She said in addition to the 35 sites that are provided by external partners on the website GoGetTested.com, there are over 60 community testing partners that have signed up to sponsor testing sites and provide greater access to testing.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is also starting pilot programs with its new mobile labs to help deal with outbreaks and improve testing for the general public. The agency is working with the United Methodist Church to pilot free testing at a number of locations across the state.

The governor said at a news conference Wednesday that widespread testing is a way to catch carriers who have not had symptoms, and keep the virus from spreading in Kansas communities.
