A Wichita man has been charged with first degree murder for a fatal shooting that happened at a north side home on New Year’s Day.

22-year-old Deajuan Calvin Smith made his first appearance in court after being arrested on February 18th.   He is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.  His bond was set at $200,000 and his next court appearance will be March 11th.

Smith is charged in the January 1st shooting death of 26-year-old Nicholas Sims.   Police said Sims was shot during an argument that broke out during a New Year’s party at a home in the 2600 block of North Bullinger.
