Kansas AG Joins Effort to Combat Fake COVID-19 Vaccination Cards

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is calling on the CEO’s of three online platforms to take action in order prevent the sale of fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination cards.

Schmidt joined 44 other state and territorial attorneys general in writing the CEO’s of Twitter, Shopify and eBay after reports of fake cards that appear to be issued by the CDC began appearing in online marketplaces.

Legitimate vaccination cards are those issued by a health care provider after a person has been vaccinated. Those who buy the fake cards can add their own information to them, giving the appearance that they have been vaccinated when they really haven’t been.

The letter asked the three CEO’s to monitor their platforms for ads or links selling blank or fraudulently completed cards, take the ads down, and preserve records and info about the ads and the people attempting to sell them.
