Governor Kelly announced that Kansas was on of twelve jurisdictions chosen for a mentoring project through the Administration for Children and Families.

The “Thriving Families, Safer Children” project was designed to leverage stakeholders to create communities where children are safe from harm by addressing the systemic barriers to creating a child well-being system in the state.

Additionally, it will develop broader networks of community based primary prevention support while integrating family, youth, and community expertise into child well-being systems. Statutory definitions of neglect will also be revised, as well as mandatory reporting that clearly differentiates between maltreatment.

Kansas was selected as a “Round Two” jurisdiction to develop strategies to transform existing child welfare systems and build infrastructure to support family well being. Round Two jurisdictions will conduct policy analysis and draft new policy legislation.
