Wichita police arrested a 33-year-old man after a fatal accident Monday southwest of the downtown area.

The crash was reported around 4:20 p.m. at Maple and Elizabeth.   They found 80-year-old Frankie Baxter pinned inside a vehicle, and after crews got her out she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Baxter was driving north on Elizabeth and turned to go east on Maple.   Her car was then struck from behind by another vehicle that was going east at a high rate of speed.   The impact pushed Baxter’s car over a curb and into a tree.

The driver of the second car was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then he was booked into jail for aggravated battery, driving under the influence, and no proof of insurance.

Information on the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
