Burglary leads to fire at northeast Wichita garage

Four Wichita police officers had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a burglar set a fire inside a detached garage at a northeast Wichita home.

Officer Charley Davidson said in a press release that officers were called to a burglary in progress on North Crestview Lake, near 21st and Oliver, around 9:40 p.m. Sunday  Officers found that a door had been barricaded from inside.  They were able to push their way into the garage and found that a suspect had locked himself inside a room.  The discovered that a fire had been set, and they called for fire units.    Fire crews were able to get the 42-year-old suspect out of the locked room and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Four officers were treated and released at a hospital after the incident.
