Wichita Woman Accused of Hitting A Man With Her Car Then Shooting Him Posts Bail

A Wichita woman who stands accused of running over a stranger with her car before shooting and killing him has been released from jail after posting bail on July 1st.

According to court documents, witnesses saw a woman hit a man on a bicycle at 13th and Oliver around 4:30 p.m. on March 26th. The woman then got out of her vehicle and shot him before fleeing the scene.

Charity Blackmon was arrested some time after the incident and was being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $250,000 bond in the death of 54-year-old Merril Rebus. She’s charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Blackmon made her first court appearance on March 30th and was found competent to stand trial on July 8th. The conditions of her bond include no contact with witnesses, electronic monitoring and pretrial services.

Blackmon is due back in court on Sept. 14th.
