Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Arcadia Farm in Alexandria, Virginia. Arcadia Farm, sits on land once owned by George Washington and their philosophy is to give Veterans an opportunity at a new career, give them the skills to be successful farmers and in turn help plan for a future where nearly 50% of the farmers in this country are planning to retire with no one to replace them.  Arcadia Farm feels Veterans are the solution.  It is also a way to help some of the millions of people who don’t have easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables. “Farmers and military folks have a very similar mindset when it comes to their work,” said Arcadia Farm executive director Pamela Hess, who helped create the Veteran Farmer Program. “Farming is a mission-oriented business in the same way that a military mission is. You can’t stop at 5 o’clock, you stop when the mission is done.” Thank you Arcadia Farm for giving purpose to Veterans and to Veteran farmers like Marcus Roberson and Jenni Haskamp, THANK YOU for your service.
