Man Arrested in Connection to Last Week’s Fatal Shooting in Riverside Park

Wichita Police arrested a man in connection to a murder that happened last week in Riverside park.

32 year old Jason Huber was found dead in the park near Murdock and Stackman Drive on Thursday, September 2nd. He was seen earlier that morning leaving a business on his bicycle. When found, his bicycle had been stolen.

Police initially took a Dodge City man into custody, but he was later released. Police said the current suspect was seen leaving the business around the same time as Huber in a white Buick La Sabre, and both traveled in the same direction.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Scott Carpenter, is also a convicted child sex offender and is presently on parole for criminal sodomy with a child, aggravated indecent liberties with a 14 year old and other charges according to records from the Kansas Department of Corrections. He currently faces charges of first degree murder.

Police responded to a welfare check near Central and Murdock in Riverside last Thursday, where they found Huber with a gunshot wound.
