Man arrested for fatal shooting at Harry & Washington

UPDATE: A 21-year-old man has been booked for first-degree murder in connection to this shooting. It’s not clear if this man is believed to be the driver or suspected shooter.

Police are looking for at least one more person in this case.


The man fatally shot at Harry and Washington is identified as 23-year-old Jacquez Carter, of Wichita.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Police said they found Carter with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Carter was driving when he got into an altercation with an individual or individuals in a white SUV. Police the driver of this SUV pulled into oncoming lanes to get beside Carter, and a passenger fired into his car.

Carter continued driving eastbound on Harry and crashed into a utility pole. Harry Street was blocked off until around 8:30 p.m.

The suspects in the white SUV have not been found. An exact motive is not clear but police say this was not a random incident.
