The Star Spangled Salute is presented by
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Vietnam Veteran Gus Allbritton. Almost 40 years ago, Gus was the victim of a crime. Burglars broke into his home while he was at work as a sheriff’s deputy and they stole one of his most prized possessions, one of three Purple Heart medals he’d been awarded after being wounded during the Vietnam War. Fast forward 38 years later when someone bought it for $2 at a yard sale, read the inscription on the back, googled Gus’ name and tracked him down to return it. Needless to say, Gus couldn’t believe it. THANK YOU for your service Gus.
