The driver killed in Wednesday morning’s crash at 254 and Greenwich is identified as 32-year-old Terry Echols Jr., from Wichita.
An initial crash was reported on westbound 254 at Greenwich around 5:40 a.m., after a driver rear-ended a semi that was moving at a slower speed. The injury to the driver that hit the semi was described as serious. This crash caused a backup on westbound 254 and drivers were being directed off that highway at Greenwich.
While traffic was backed up, a semi driver was changing lanes, and was rear-ended by Echols, who was driving at a higher speed. This crash happened just before 7 a.m., and Echols died at the scene.
That stretch of 254 has seen similar crashes in the past, where a driver hits slowed traffic after an initial crash.
