UPDATE:  The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of Tuesday’s pickup-train collision as 36-year-old Ana Hirai Guerrero-Dominguez of Maize.  She was driving a Chevy Silverado pickup that hit a Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad train at a crossing north of the intersection of 53rd Street North and 135th Street West.

Deputies said Guerrero-Dominguez’s two daughters were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.

(previous story)

A pickup truck was hit by a train at a crossing northwest of Maize, killing one person and injuring two others.

The accident was reported around 3 p.m. Tuesday at 53rd Street North and 135th Street West.   Crews found one person with serious injuries and another with minor injuries, and a third person was pinned in the truck, which was underneath a grain car.   The third person was removed by rescue crews and then pronounced dead at the scene.

Sedgwick County sheriff’s lieutenant Tim Forshee said the driver of the pickup, a woman in her 30s, was dead at the scene.   The two passengers were children who were taken to area hospitals.   He said it appeared that the driver did not see the train, but deputies are still talking to witnesses to get more information.

The names of the victims have not been released, but Forshee said they are from northern Sedgwick County.
