The Star Spangled Salute is presented by
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 97-year-old World War II Veteran Ernie Reda. Ernie fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy Invasion. He was a sharpshooter in the Army and his unit received four awards during his three years of service. Ernie recently fought Covid-19 about 5-weeks ago and during that time, his Granddaughter was working closely with the local High School and Operation Recognition to get Ernie the High School diploma he never received because he left to fight for his country. On Monday, at an intimate gathering of family and military members at his old High School, Ernie was honored with his diploma and a rare hardcopy of his 1943 yearbook. Ernie said 78-years was a long time to wait but it was the “best Christmas ever”. Congratulations Ernie and THANK YOU for your service.
