The Kansas Highway Patrol identified 6-year-old Regan Sampson of Wichita as the person killed in a crash that happened on the Kansas Turnpike early Friday.
Troopers said around 8:30 a.m. Friday, an SUV was traveling south on the turnpike in southeast Wichita when it went off the roadway and hit the back of a semi that was parked on the shoulder. The driver of the SUV, 28-year-old Tori Hornecker of Wichita, was taken to a hospital along with an 8-year-old passenger, and they were both in serious condition.
Sampson was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
