Public Works & Utilities Says Repair Work on Leaking Water Main Going Smoothly

Officials with the City of Wichita’s Public Works and Utilities said Friday that significant progress is being made repairing the 42” water main pipe located between the Hess pump station at 1601 Museum Blvd and the current water treatment facility.

Officials said the stuck valve has been closed and the materials for the bypass have been located and are being delivered.

They maintained that all water treatment services remain stable, service levels are normal, and that no customer impacts are expected under current demands.

Crews will continue to monitor the situation around the clock and the City will provide status reports on repairs as updates are available.

The City does not anticipate needing to issue a boil advisory and customers do not need to take any action at this time.

The City shared information about the repairs earlier in the week due to the size and location of the pipe experiencing the leak, saying it wanted to make the public aware out of “an abundance of caution.”
