Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Wichita native and Marine Vietnam Veteran Gerald Diaz.  If you were at the Wind Surge game Saturday you witnessed Gerald being honored at the game for being a “Hometown Hero”.  Gerald volunteered to serve and quickly found himself in Vietnam as a Radio Operator.  He would spend 5-10 days out in the bush, doing recon, gathering as much intel as possible then he would call in fire and air strikes. It’s not lost on Gerald that not all made it home, so he recognizes the Vietnam P.O.W. by wearing a special ring.  Gerald acknowledges that war is a scary thing, but says he’d go again.  He’s proud of his service, loves his country and wants to keep it free.  Thank you Gerald for your patriotism and THANK YOU for your service.
