Wind gusts of 63 miles an hour were reported across Wichita with severe thunderstorms early Friday.  The winds caused damage to buildings and brought down power lines.

Clean up activities were underway at Tracy Electric at 79th Street South and Broadway, where roof damage was reported (picture provided by Joyce Tracy).  The winds also brought down tree limbs across the city.

The storms led to scattered power outages across Wichita.  As of 10 a.m., about 2600 customers were without power. The largest area without power was in northwest Wichita, between 25th and 37th, from Broadway to I-235. Dozens more outages are being reported across the city. Crews have been working overnight to fix power lines that damaged by a combination of strong winds and falling trees.

With all of these scattered outages, you will come across areas where traffic lights are not working.

So far, Evergy has not provided an estimate for when power may be restored.  There were still a number of scattered outages throughout the afternoon, and the number of affected customers was down to around 200 by 3 p.m.
