New York is now banning guns in many public places following last week’s Supreme Court ruling against the state’s restrictive gun laws.
State lawmakers came to an agreement Friday to define settings where guns will no longer be allowed in New York, including Times Square, public transportation, places that serve alcohol and anywhere children might spend time.
The new law will also bolster New York’s safe storage laws and expand the measures that would prevent someone from getting a gun license.
Background checks will now also be required to purchase ammunition, and a database will track those sales.
