An unidentified man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by a Wichita police officer during a four-hour standoff in a north side neighborhood Sunday morning.

Police were called to a report of a domestic violence incident with shots fired around 9 a.m. Sunday at a home near 45th Street North and Arkansas.   Officers found that the man had locked himself in a shed in the backyard, and he refused to talk to officers or come out of the shed.    The man began firing shots at officers, and one shot struck a police vehicle but no officers were injured.   The man stepped out of the shed and fired more shots, and he was hit by return fire from an officer.

Police closed Arkansas from 43rd Street North to 47th Street North during the standoff, which ended shortly after 1 p.m.
