An investigation is ongoing into an inmate’s death at the Lansing Correctional Facility.

A statement from the KDOC says 56-year-old Fred Patterson III died on Sunday. Specifics on a cause of death have not been made public, but the KODC reports Patterson’s death appears to be homicide.

Patterson had been in prison since violating parole in May of this  year. His original convictions were one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child greater than 14 and less than 16 years of age, and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child less than 14 years of age. These offenses were in Douglas County.

Autopsy results are pending, and per protocol, the KBI is helping with the investigation.
