A Wichita woman has been sentenced to over 46 years in prison for crashing her van into a bicycle rider and then shooting him.

A judge sentenced 32-year-old Charity Blackmon to 554 months for second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.  Blackmon had pleaded guilty to the charges in March.

Prosecutors said a van crashed into 54-year-old Merrill Rabus as he was riding his bicycle at 13th and Oliver on March 26th, 2021.   The driver then stepped out and shot Rabus, killing him.   Police said Blackmon and Rabus did not know each other.    Rabus worked for the Union Rescue Mission and had completed a life change program.
