Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Wichita Native, Petty Officer 3rd Class Pedro Santillan.  Growing up in Wichita, Pedro was always told he had amazing work skills and a strong work ethic and he shares that with the military.  Pedro, a 2010 North High Graduate , is a member of the Seabees.  Eighty years ago, members of Navy Construction Battalions were fittingly nicknamed, “Seabees,” a play on the C and B initials. They are responsible for building military bases and airfields, supporting humanitarian efforts and conducting underwater construction projects.  Pedro thanks his family for their great support as he serves the Navy as a builder with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 at the headquarters for naval construction forces in Gulfport, Mississippi. Pedro says, “Serving in the Navy provides protection of freedom across the seas,” adding “My favorite part about my job is being able to motivate sailors by providing helpful skills to better finish our tasking.” Thank you for making us Wichita Proud Pedro and THANK YOU for your service.
