The Kansas Department of Transportation along with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are raising awareness for its “Click It or Ticket” campaign ahead of the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend.

Law enforcement agencies will have an increased presence on roadways to check for speeders, seat belt use, and any suspicion of impaired driving.

According to KDOT, 319 passenger vehicle occupants were killed in traffic crashes in Kansas in 2021. 46.4% of those killed were unrestrained. Authorities are encouraging everyone to buckle-up during before heading out for their holiday travel plans.

Across the U.S. in 2020, only 1% of people wearing seatbelts were ejected in fatal crashes, compared to 26 % who were unrestrained.

This Thanksgiving’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign will be in effect from Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, to Monday, Nov. 28th.
