A suspect is dead and three deputies are hurt after an officer-involved shooting in Dodge City.   The suspect was later identified as a man wanted for a double homicide in Arizona.

According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, this began when a wanted person was spotted in Clark County, around 9 a.m. Monday. A Clark County deputy tried to pull the person over, but he fled north toward Dodge City.  Deputies from Ford County and the KHP joined the case, which ended on the east side of Dodge City, near Wyatt Earp and 113 Road.

Gunfire was exchanged as the suspect driver came to a stop. Two Ford County deputies were hit. One deputy is reported to be OK, while the other was taken to a hospital in serious condition. A Clark County deputy is also in serious condition after being shot. The two deputies in serious condition were taken to a Wichita hospital.

A KHP trooper was bitten by a law enforcement K-9 during the incident and is reported to be OK.

A woman in the suspect’s car was also hit by gunfire and taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.

The KBI identified the suspect as 39-year-old Leroy Malone of Phoenix, Arizona, and he is wanted in connection with a double murder in that city.   Clark County deputies saw his vehicle in Minneola and recognized it as the vehicle wanted in the Arizona homicides, and that led to the chase.
