Schools in Haysville were on lockdown early Thursday afternoon as a result of a telephone threat.

The threat was received at Haysville West Middle School during the noon hour and it was directed at staff and students.   The district contacted Haysville police and schools were placed on a lockdown for about an hour.

The district issued a statement about the incident:

The district communicated with members of HPD throughout the investigation and decided to place all district buildings in “Secure” mode while law enforcement conducted their investigation of the threat. During the process, officers from the Haysville Police Department conducted a search of HWMS and determined that at no time was an intruder on USD #261 property or on the Haysville West campus. Once it was determined students and staff were safe and no threat existed, all buildings were released from secure mode and classes resumed as normal.

At no time during the incident were students or staff harmed. We understand these situations are very stressful for our school community and encourage all parents to visit with their children about today’s events at HWMS. USD #261 has counseling staff available should your child need additional support as they process today’s events.
