The City of Augusta is warning residents of a scammer that has been posing as a city employee.
City officials received reports of a man on a hoverboard attempting to gain entry to residences.
The city addressed the incidents in a Facebook post, saying: “For your safety, it is recommended NOT to answer the door to strangers…City employees will be wearing uniforms, have badges, will not ride hoverboards, and generally will not need inside your house.”
It is not yet clear what the individual’s intent was. Residents are being told that if they witness similar suspicious activity, contact the Augusta Public Safety Department on its non-emergency line at (316) 775-4500, extension 0.
