Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Korean War Veteran Carl Grindstaff. For the last 2 years Carl has lived in his truck because his social security check doesn’t have enough to cover housing. That all changed after a chance encounter with a woman named Brenna VanNada. As a nurse, a helper was who she was, so she talked to Carl and learned his story. She then went home, made a Facebook post asking for help and the community responded. In just 2 days, over $8,000 was raised for Carl to get a camper. The money went towards a camper, rent for Gridstaff to park the camper at an RV park, registration, and insurance. “It’s been my dream come true! I don’t have to worry about a place to stay, you know. I don’t have to worry about anything anymore,” said Carl. Carl went on to say his next step is to give back to the community that helped him and find a permanent place to stay. Enjoy your new home Carl and THANK YOU for your service.
