KU to play in Midwest Region of NCAA tournament, KSU to NIT

The Kansas Jayhawks will play in the Midwest Region of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.  Kansas State did not make the field of 68 teams, and they will play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

The Jayhawks were seeded fourth in the region, and they will play 13th seed Samford in a first round game on Thursday, March 21st in Salt Lake City.   Purdue is the number one seed in the Midwest, with Tennessee seeded second and Creighton seeded third.

Other Big 12 teams playing in the tournament are Houston, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Texas, TCU, Baylor, and Brigham Young.  Houston is the number one seed in the South Region.

Kansas State’s men’s team will play Tuesday evening at 8 in Iowa City, Iowa, taking on the third seeded Iowa Hawkeyes.


The Kansas and Kansas State women’s teams will be playing in the NCAA women’s tournament.  The eighth-seeded Jayhawks will play ninth seed Michigan in a first-round game in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 23rd.   The Wildcats will play at home in Manhattan on Friday, March 22nd as the number 4 seed, taking on 13th seed Portland.
