Today, the AWESOME comes from the Doñana National Park in Spain.
In southern Spain, a herd of 18 rescued donkeys serves as “herbivorous firefighters” to prevent wildfires in Doñana National Park. Led by a quirky rescue named Galileo, the donkeys graze up to seven hours daily from March to November. They clear tough, dry brush in hard-to-reach areas where heavy machinery cannot operate, effectively removing the fuel that feeds forest fires.
Supported by the nonprofit El Burrito Feliz and volunteers from Mujeres por Doñana, the project has successfully prevented forest fires in the park since 2014, earning recognition from Spain’s Military Emergency Unit for its eco-friendly impact.
and THAT’S AWESOME
