Today, I salute Army Veteran Gary Parks.
Drafted into the Army in 1966, Oklahoma native Gary Parks used his lifelong passion for weather to become a ballistic meteorologist. During the Vietnam War, he flew weather balloons under fire to provide artillery units with critical atmospheric data for targeting.
After returning to Fort Hood to assist paratrooper drills, Parks completed his service in 1969. Now retired in Argonia, he continues to honor his fellow service members by participating in a group that flies flags for deceased veterans, growing the tribute from 41 flags to 207.
Thank you for keeping history and memories alive, Gary, and THANK YOU for your service.
