After an unpayable $4,000 repair quote left his children sweltering, Michael Kuba taught himself auto repair using online tutorials. That necessity evolved into The Junkie Garage, a Glendale, Arizona nonprofit run by Michael and his 16-year-old son, Matthew.

The shop performs basic repairs—like AC, brakes, and alternators—without financial background checks. Customers simply provide the required parts and donate what they can afford for labor, often reducing $4,000 bills to under $300. Supported by donations and personal funds, Michael hopes to expand to a multi-bay shop with volunteer mechanics to serve more families in need.
