Heather Larson has been a Kansas resident since 2010 and a Wichita resident since 2011.
She’s originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, where her radio career began in 1998. Heather has worked with Greg Kihn and Alice Cooper at stations there and in Arizona. She worked for KNBR-AM as a sports producer during the inaugural season for what was then Pac Bell Park. She got into morning radio at KZZP-FM Phoenix before jumping into journalism and working for KDKB before settling in at 98.7 The Peak in Phoenix. She completed her Bachelor of Liberal Arts online at Boston University in 2010 while working at the Peak and Westwood One – where she started doing news in 2004.
Tired of the 122-degree heat, Heather moved to Kansas (as our weather changes hourly) and landed at KDGS-FM Wichita and did mornings for four years there. Heather won a KAB Award for 1st Place DJ Personality Aircheck in 2011.
Not wanting to leave Wichita’s great people and rich sense of community, Heather chose to stay and took a detour from broadcasting to work in the substance abuse field since 2015. She is a proud member of the recovery community and brings a wealth of knowledge about recovery and incarceration issues to the field of journalism. She detests the use of the words “guard” and “prisoners” in news stories. (They are officers and inmates).
In her free time, Heather runs her own coaching business, loves to go shooting, read, and do yoga.
