Arrest made in shooting of 2-year-old girl

Child was not seriously hurt.

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita Police have made an arrest in connection to the shooting of a 2-year-old girl.

It happened around 8 p.m. at a park in the 3800 block of East Ross Parkway in Planeview.  Police say a white Chevy Impala was driving the wrong way when a man opened fire from the car, striking the girl in the foot.

The girl's father grabbed the girl and ran to a nearby apartment complex.  He then took the girl to a hospital for treatment.

Around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, officers stopped the suspect on George Washington Blvd, near Oliver.  He was booked into jail for aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Police believe this shooting is connected to a shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon in the 2400 block of North Chautauqua.  In that incident, a 7-month-old child was hit by bullet fragments.  Both of the children were not seriously hurt.

Wichita Police say they continue to receive very little cooperation from the public in connection to the shootings.  Their urging anyone who has information to contact detectives at 268-4407.
