Chase leads to crash in Derby

Police chased a vehicle wanted for a shooting

DERBY, Kan. - A woman is being treated for potentially critical injuries after a chase led to a rollover crash in Derby.

It began shortly after 12 p.m. in Derby and ended a short time later at Meadowlark and Lee between K-15 and Buckner when the vehicle overturned.

Wichita police officer Charley Davidson said a tip was received about a vehicle wanted in connection with a shooting incident at a Menards store Monday afternoon at 37th Street North and Maize Road.  Officers spotted the vehicle and chased into Derby, with Sedgwick County deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and Derby police also involved.   Davidson said stop sticks were used several times, but they were not effective.

The vehicle crashed in a residential area on Meadowlark, just east of K-15, and it overturned.  The woman driving the car was taken to a hospital.

Police were looking for a man and woman after the shooting incident at the Menards store.  They are still investigating, but Davidson said the car is the one that police were looking for.
