TOPEKA, Kan. - If you plan on getting a Real ID compliant Kansas driver's license, you may want to do it as soon as possible.
Starting October 2020, a Real ID star will be required on your license for it to be accepted as a federal ID. It will be needed to use your driver's license to enter a military base or board a plane.
To get a compliant Kansas license, you will need proof of your social security number. This can be the card itself or a W-2. You will also need a birth certificate or passport.
The Real ID act is a set of requirements from the federal government that make sure all ID's being accepted meet the same requirements.
You don't have to get a Real ID compliant license to fly though. A passport will be accepted as a form of federal identification.
