DERBY, Kan - A long-awaited dinosaur theme park will open in Derby for the Memorial Day weekend.
Field Station: Dinosaurs will have over 40 animatronic creatures that visitors will be able to walk around on a Dinosaur Path, and there will be dinosaur-themed shows with music. The 14-acre facility will also have an indoor challenge course and a mini-golf course.
The park's executive director, Guy Gsell, told KFDI News that it is aimed at youngsters age 3 to 11 but there are attractions that will appeal to everyone.
The park will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m through the summer, and the mini golf course will be open until 10 p.m. Tickets for the Dinosaur Path are $16.50 for people 12 and older and $13.50 for youngsters from 2 to 11 years of age.
The $6.5 million dollar facility has around 50 employees, and it was built with private financing and the use of STAR Bonds, supported by sales tax revenues. Derby officials are hoping the park will become a regional attraction.
