WICHITA, Kan. - Large crowds are expected next weekend for the Frontiers in Flight Open House and Air Show at McConnell Air Force Base. The show will take place September 8th and 9th.
Textron Aviation is allowing their property and land north of the base to be used for parking for the event. Visitors will have to walk through the field to get onto the base.
For the disabled and others who are unable to walk the distance, parking with shuttle service will be available at Spirit AeroSystems and Air Capital Flight Line on South Oliver. Buses will run all day for the two days of the air show.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office will be assisting with traffic control in and out of the parking area, as well as along Rock, Oliver, Pawnee and 47th Street South. You will not be allowed to park on any of those streets to watch the air show due to the public safety hazard it creates.
Over 100,000 people are expected to attend the open house and air show on that Saturday and Sunday. Base officials are recommending that people car pool to cut down on traffic issues, and to make sure you get there early to get through security and get a good spot to watch.
