Investigation is closed on fatal Pratt fire

A cause could not be determined for the fire

PRATT, Kan - The state fire marshal's office has closed its investigation of a fatal house fire in Pratt, and the cause will be officially classified as undetermined.

In a press release, the office said an investigative team spent three days on the scene talking to witnesses and looking through the debris.   They were unable to eliminate careless smoking or a child playing with a lighter as the cause.   The fire started in the basement of the home in a central living area.

The fire marshal's office also said there were no smoke alarms found in the home.

The January 25th fire caused the deaths of 22-year-old Charee Wheatley and her children; Reece, River, Timmy and Harley.
